As Showdown Displays Europe we find it important to support communities, both locally as abroad. After some good experiences the last years, we have started a new project with ShineBean to help children in Kenya. Not only as an organisation we find it important to help, but also our employees feel involved. We are happy to see that this year 22 employees of SDE are taking part in the new project. Together they help 27 Kenyan children, both financially as on a social level.

The farming project

On the School Training Farms, ShineBean teaches children how to farm ecologically to help children and their families to have their own source of food and income. New this year is that all children also have to take care of home gardens. As Showdown, we support children around 14 years old of the Ndere elementary school. We have composed teams of SDE employees and Kenyan children together. Every month the Kenyan children receive practical tasks to perform in their gardens and they are rewarded for their achievements. Our employees have monthly contact with their team members in Kenya via e-mail to motivate them to achieve their tasks. Next to that, every month the employee contributes with a small amount to help the children financially. Showdown Displays Europe doubles this amount. With this money the children get rewarded for their achievements with for instance school uniforms, textbooks, shoes, clothing and food.

I’m glad The Kenya project gives me the opportunity to support people who don’t have the same opportunities as I have. In this way, I hope I can help to speed up their growth.”

– Martin Podhola, Product Information Manager at Showdown Displays Europe

More about ShineBean

ShineBean is a non-profit organisation that is active in Kenya since 2006. In Kenya the organisation runs a number of projects to improve economic self-sufficiency of the local people. In a cooperation with local schools they developed School Training Farms and help to make education accessible for children.

“Besides practical knowledge, motivation is a key factor for Kenyan children to be successful in growing their own vegetable garden. That’s why it’s wonderful to see Showdown Displays Europe supports these children to achieve great results. It’s a winning combination.”
